“While painting azulejos patterns, I thought about people, artisans and entire cultures. I thought about those whose work has been to be ornamental painters or stone carvers. I patiently painted repetitive patterns. At times, I found the meticulousness so dulling that I suspect my own Western resilience has already been spoiled. The series is also a tribute to the continuum of craftsmanship and the aesthetics in the post-industrial age.”

In the series Eternal Cobalt Fever Nyo makes a stylistic exception to her abstract expression. At the heart of the paintings are Azulejos tiles, which are found on buildings especially in the Iberian Peninsula, North Africa and Brazil. The aesthetics of azulejos are timeless, and at the same time their timelessness serves as a link between different eras: the colonial history of styles, trends, and colours is present.
