I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2023. The series was painted during my active cancer
treatments in 2023-24. The piece named Untitled was painted in November while I was waiting for
information about the quality of the tumor, which can only be confirmed by a pathologist. Is it Benign or Malign? Good or bad one? My friend suggested that I name the excised tumor, which I also gave to
scientific research in the biobank. The idea of a name seemed unnecessary, but in the end I named it
A.Maligni (after the Italian actress Anna Magnani), anticipating the quality and gradus of it.

The piece Morimento was painted in March -24 during my cytostatic treatment period. I got cytostatic drugs in an infusion treatment, and the state of intoxication was a deeply shaking experience, mentally and physically. It’s an unreal anti-state and at worst like a months-long downer without any promise of euphoria (I can say this as an expert on all kinds of substances). A bald and eyelashless hermit looked
back in the mirror. My identity was morphed, modified and smashed.
Life became disfigured andbeautiful at the same time. I felt fear, grace and insight. Borderline. At this point in the treatments, I dealt strongly with life and death, making sure that all three of my children knew that I loved them. I said things that there is no point in storing to the deathbed. I wrote my own obituary.

The piece Harsh Times Bunny Breast was partially born already in October -23 right after the biopsy.
The thick needle test was a violent and unwarned experience. I felt like a test animal. Or test-human.
I received radiation treatment 15 times in May 2024. I felt like a test human in the radiation treatment
machine. I could have imagined a space helmet with foil on my head as I lay in the device with my hands up, motionless, in a machine that was shooting an electromagnetic ray into my chest and armpits.
Toto’s Africa was played as background music. 80’s aesthetics. The treatment format represents
Reverse Futurism. Because of that or in spite of that, I could get more years to live.
Future? – The future trend will be a great curiosity.

Installation: Microplastics and nanobots in veins
It has been predicted that in the current and future generations, one in two will get cancer. Life
expectancy is increasing and cancer treatments are becoming more individualized. In the future,
perhaps ten years from now, nanobots will repair damaged cells in our body, kill metastases and spare
healthy ones.
One can look for the culprits and predisposing factors of cancer everywhere. One of them can be
plastic. Microplastics are in our bodies. It circulates in our veins and in breast milk.

This series and an the installation was exhibited as a part of a group show in Helsinki, Yö Galleria, in July 2024.
